Hull City secured their first three points of the season with a narrow win over Bolton Wanderers at the KC Stadium. Ghilas fired the decisive goal of a scrappy Barclays Premier League encounter after being set up by Altidore's first touch with 61 minutes gone. Until then Hull had been second best to Bolton, who missed clear-cut chances through Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies.

Birmingham City 0-0 Stoke City

The spoils were shared at St Andrews as Birmingham City and Stoke City drew in the Barclays Premier League. Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen produced a superb second-half save to deny Birmingham their second home Barclays Premier League win in the space of 72 hours. The former Denmark international kept out a bullet-like header from Blues striker Garry O'Connor at full stretch from a Sebastian Larsson free-kick. It was one of the few moments of excitement but both sides will probably be satisfied with a return of four points from their opening three matches of the campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers got their first league win of the season with victory at Wigan Athletic.

Striker Andy Keogh's header spoiled Roberto Martinez's 'homecoming' as Wigan manager as Wolves outfought the hosts to win at the DW Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland international glanced a sixth-minute header in off a post, having shot against the same upright moments earlier.

Keogh should also have had a penalty 11 minutes after half-time but was booked for diving after going down under Titus Bramble's challenge.

REPORT: Sunderland 1-3 Chelsea

Chelsea came from behind to win at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland on Tuesday.

Carlo Ancelotti picked up his first Premier League away win as Chelsea were made to come from behind to claim victory.

Despite dominating the first half, the visitors went in at the break trailing to Darren Bent's second goal in as many matches for Sunderland.

But once Michael Ballack had fired them back on level terms within seven minutes of the restart they never looked back.

Frank Lampard handed them the lead from the penalty spot nine minutes later and Deco's sweet 70th-minute strike proved more than enough to see off the Black Cats.

Pizarro leaves Chelsea

German club Werder Bremen have re-signed striker Claudio Pizarro from Chelsea.

The Peruvian has returned to the Weserstadion after enjoying a successful loan spell there last term.

A statement on Chelsea's official website read: "Claudio Pizarro has signed a permanent deal with Werder Bremen.

"All at the club wish Claudio well for the future."

Pizarro, who also spent two years at Bremen earlier in his career, helped them win the DFB Pokal and reach the final of the UEFA Cup.

Bremen ended in a disappointing 10th place in the league, but Pizarro impressed with 17 goals.

The 30-year-old returned to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign, but appeared to have little chance of first-team football with Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou for competition.

Pizarro joined Chelsea in summer 2007 on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

He scored on his debut for the Blues, but soon found himself out of the picture as the manager who signed him, Jose Mourinho, left the club, while Anelka was recruited the following January.

Bremen, meanwhile, have been desperate to add to their attacking options, having lost influential Brazilian Diego to Juventus.

Duff joins Fulham

Fulham have completed the signing of Damien Duff from Newcastle United.

The fee for the Republic of Ireland winger has not been disclosed, but it has been confirmed Duff, 30, has signed for three years.

Duff joined Newcastle from Chelsea during the summer of 2006, and went on to play 86 times, scoring six goals, the last of which came in the opening match of the Championship season at West Bromwich Albion.

"I am happy that my move to Fulham has been completed," said Duff, who made his breakthrough at Blackburn Rovers, on Fulham's official club website.

"Fulham had a fantastic season last year and I know having spoken to the manager that the club's ambitions remain high and I am looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson added: "I am delighted to add a player of Damien Duff's calibre to our squad, and welcome the further midfield options he provides us with. I have known Damien for over a decade since he broke into the first team at Blackburn when I was manager, so I'm fully aware of his qualities and I am looking forward to working with him again."

Manchester United 1-0 Birmingham City

Wayne Rooney's 99th goal for Manchester United was enough to get the champions off to a winning start.

But United were made to work hard by a spirited Birmingham side who went close through Christian Benitez who had an angled shot well saved by Ben Foster while Michael Owen was denied by Joe Hart near the end.
