Hull City secured their first three points of the season with a narrow win over Bolton Wanderers at the KC Stadium. Ghilas fired the decisive goal of a scrappy Barclays Premier League encounter after being set up by Altidore's first touch with 61 minutes gone. Until then Hull had been second best to Bolton, who missed clear-cut chances through Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies.

Birmingham City 0-0 Stoke City

The spoils were shared at St Andrews as Birmingham City and Stoke City drew in the Barclays Premier League. The former Denmark international kept out a bullet-like header from Blues striker Garry O'Connor at full stretch from a Sebastian Larsson free-kick. It was one of the few moments of excitement but both sides will probably be satisfied with a return of four points from their opening three matches of the campaign.
